This is where my reviews of media that I consume (e.g. visual novels, movies, anime) will go. For readability purposes (and because I'm lazy), this page is less vibrant and distracting than other pages on my site.

PLANETARIAN

Planetarian…

Before reading Planetarian, I was in a “reading block”. Which means that the last time that I had actually been engaged in a visual novel, let alone any type of literature besides school assignments… was a while ago, to say the least! So, I decided to read “Planetarian”. According to VNDB, it was a short novel that got its point across while also being one of the most beautiful things that I would ever lay my eyes upon. So, I gave it a try.

And it most certainly was.

First, I want to say that utsuges aren’t really my thing. I like to see conflicts come to fruition, for the protagonist to finally live happily… So for Planetarian to be as beautiful to me as it was… It was really surprising, to say the least.

At first, the cold attitude that “Mr. Customer” (sorry. I will be calling him that throughout the review take it or leave it loser) had towards Revvie kind of annoyed me. WHY ARE YOU TELLING HER TO SHUT UP??? I know it was because he’s completely void of hope or happiness and that it’s out of the norm for him to meet with someone who isn’t an enemy. However, this adds a lot to the overall theme of the story, something that hit me later on. Mr. Customer’s cold, serious demeanor (the rain, the post-apocalyptic setting, the despair…) combined with Revvie’s naive, friendly personality (the state of things before the wars, aka the time period she’s “stuck” in)... It really makes the ending hit more than it should, and overall makes the story all that much better.

Of course, I do have one complaint… though it’s incredibly petty. I hate mecha battles in VNs with all of my heart. I nearly fell asleep near the end of the novel because it was SO BORING. There was barely any action, any thrill, any way for me to truly get engaged with either side. It felt a bit dragged. Though, this is just a personal complaint. If I had a bit more patience and open mindedness, I think I would’ve liked the scene a little bit more.

In short, I loved Planetarian. It was an excellent way for me to “get into” VNs again. Though, maybe I should head to the planetarium sometime soon? Y’know, that beautiful twinkling of eternity that never fades, no matter when? After all, all of the stars in the sky are waiting for me~
